Udaipur sits 660 kilometres southwest of Delhi in the Aravalli Hills of Rajasthan — a city built around a series of interconnected lakes, crowned by a white marble palace that has appeared in more photographs of India than almost any other building. The approach from Delhi via NH-48 passes through Jaipur and descends through the rocky Aravalli landscape before reaching the lake basin. It is one of India’s most rewarding road trip routes — the landscape changes dramatically in the last 200 kilometres.
Udaipur rewards travellers who arrive without a rush. The light on Lake Pichola at dawn, the boat crossing to Jag Niwas, the old city lanes behind Jagdish Temple — none of these are best experienced on a tight schedule.
At 660 km, this is a two-day drive in either direction. Most travellers stop overnight in Jaipur — roughly halfway — making it a natural two-city circuit before arriving in Udaipur. Others prefer a single long drive with an early 4:00 AM departure from Delhi, arriving in Udaipur by early evening. Both approaches work. The right choice depends on whether you want to stop in Jaipur or arrive in Udaipur with the maximum time available.
Delhi Cabz has been running the Delhi–Udaipur corridor since 2010. One chauffeur for the full journey, door-to-door from Delhi NCR, pricing fixed and agreed before departure. We handle the drive — you arrive in one of the most beautiful cities in India without the fatigue of navigating Rajasthan’s roads yourself.
Recommended Structure
Delhi → Jaipur (Day 1, overnight in Jaipur) → Udaipur (Day 2). Most travellers find this pace comfortable and it lets you see both cities without exhaustion.
Best Season
Post-monsoon Udaipur (September–October) sees the lakes full and the hills green. November through February is the most popular season. April through June is hot — Udaipur is cooler than most of Rajasthan but still warm.
Wedding Transport
Udaipur is one of India’s most popular destination wedding cities. We coordinate guest convoys from Delhi NCR — airport pickups, hotel transfers, and multi-vehicle departures. See wedding transport →
Pricing
Your rate covers the full route — fuel, all NH-48 tolls, and overnight stay coordination if needed. Agreed before departure with no additions at the end.
Your chauffeur knows the approach roads, restricted zones around the lakefront, and the exact drop-off point for each of these properties. Udaipur’s old city lanes are narrow — a driver who has been here before makes a significant difference on arrival.
Ultra-Luxury
Lake Pichola · Haridas Ji Ki Magri
The Oberoi Udaivilas
Consistently ranked among the finest hotels in the world. Set on 50 acres on the banks of Lake Pichola with private boat access to the lake. Your chauffeur drops at the main entrance on Haridas Ji Ki Magri Road — the hotel’s boat pier handles the rest.
Ultra-Luxury
Lake Pichola · Mid-Lake
Taj Lake Palace
An 18th-century white marble palace that appears to float on Lake Pichola — there are no roads to this hotel. Your chauffeur drops at the Bansi Ghat jetty and the hotel’s boat transfers you across the lake to the property.
Luxury
Lake Pichola · Badi Haveli
The Leela Palace Udaipur
Positioned on Lake Pichola with views across to the City Palace and Jag Niwas. The property has a direct motorable access road from the main city approach — your chauffeur drops at the main porch without navigating the old city lanes.
Luxury
Lake Pichola · Hamir Niwas
Trident Udaipur
Set on a private island in Lake Pichola — technically a peninsula accessible by a narrow causeway. Your chauffeur knows the causeway approach and the exact point where vehicles are permitted to drop guests for the final walk to the hotel entrance.
Heritage
Old City · Lal Ghat
Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel
A heritage haveli directly on Lake Pichola in the old city quarter. The access lane is narrow and one-way — your chauffeur knows the correct approach from Chandpole and the luggage drop point closest to the haveli entrance.
Heritage
Old City · Hanuman Ghat
Udai Kothi
A five-storey haveli with a rooftop pool overlooking Lake Pichola — consistently one of Udaipur’s most photographed stays. Located in the heart of the old city, the access road requires knowledge of the one-way lane system near Hanuman Ghat.
Heritage · Royal
City Palace Complex
Fateh Prakash Palace
Part of the Mewar royal family’s City Palace complex — one of the few hotels where you sleep inside a working palace. Access is through the City Palace gates on the lakefront road, which has restricted vehicle hours your driver is familiar with.

Old City · Toran Pol
Raas Devigarh
Strictly speaking, Raas Devigarh is 28 km outside Udaipur in Delwara — a restored 18th-century palace in a village in the Aravalli Hills. Your chauffeur drives you directly from Udaipur. The approach road through the village requires a driver who has made the journey before.
Most travellers break the journey in Jaipur overnight. Here is how each leg of the drive unfolds.
Departure

132 km
180 km
115 km
The first leg runs via NH-48 — a six-lane highway with well-maintained service plazas. Departure from Delhi NCR by 6:00 – 7:00 AM gets you to Jaipur by midday, leaving the afternoon for Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the old city before the overnight stop. Your chauffeur knows the NH-48 toll corridors and the fastest bypass around Gurugram in the morning.
The second day begins with the 132 km run from Jaipur to Ajmer via NH-48 — a straightforward two-hour drive. Ajmer is worth a brief stop — the Dargah Sharif of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is one of India’s most important Sufi shrines, a 20-minute visit from the roadside. Most travellers continue through without stopping, but it is worth knowing the option exists.
The landscape begins to change noticeably after Ajmer — flatter terrain gives way to the first undulations of the Aravalli Hills. Chittorgarh is the midpoint of the second day and the site of one of Rajasthan’s most impressive fort complexes perched on a 180-metre plateau. A 90-minute visit here breaks the drive meaningfully without adding too much time to the final leg.
The final 115 km descends through the Aravalli Hills into the Udaipur lake basin — the most visually rewarding section of the entire drive. The road narrows in sections and winds through forested terrain before opening out to the first views of Lake Fateh Sagar as you enter the city. Arrival in Udaipur by mid to late afternoon gives you time to reach your hotel and take a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola.
The right structure depends on how many days you have and whether you want to stop in Jaipur on the way.

For most travellers, yes. At 660 km, the full route is most comfortably done with an overnight stop in Jaipur — roughly halfway. Jaipur to Udaipur is 380 km on day two via Ajmer and Chittorgarh. A single-day drive is possible with a 4:00 AM departure from Delhi, arriving in Udaipur by early evening.
Yes. We pick up from anywhere across Delhi NCR — Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. Just share your address when you request a quote and we factor it into the route and pricing for the full Delhi–Udaipur journey.
Yes. Chittorgarh is directly on the route between Jaipur and Udaipur — there is no significant detour involved. Just mention it when booking and we plan the departure time from Jaipur accordingly.
Yes. Several of Udaipur’s best hotels — including Jagat Niwas, Udai Kothi, and the Lal Ghat area properties — are accessed through narrow one-way lanes in the old city that do not appear correctly on navigation apps. Our drivers are experienced on these approach roads and know the exact luggage drop point for each property.
